Job Summary

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is seeking a high-calibre Senior Civil Engineering Leader to lead and manage the activities of the Northern Ireland regional team. As a key member of the ICE leadership team, you will be responsible for delivering the ICE vision, core purpose and objectives in the region, ensuring the effective implementation of the ICE Plan.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership role with a focus on building relationships, influencing decision-makers and promoting civil engineering within Northern Ireland. You will be responsible for:

  • Customer Focus
    • Ensuring effective engagement with volunteer members and keeping them informed of regional activities and initiatives.
    • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders in NI, including government, industry bodies and academia.
    • Developing and implementing strategies to raise awareness of civil engineering and the ICE's role in infrastructure development.
    • Providing expert commentary on civil engineering and infrastructure issues, acting as an ICE spokesperson when necessary.
  • Operational Delivery
    • Developing and implementing the ICE Plan for Northern Ireland, focusing on member engagement, knowledge sharing and infrastructure policy and external affairs.
    • Overseeing the delivery of regional events and activities, ensuring they are high-quality and meet member needs.
    • Collaborating with other ICE regions and external bodies to share best practices.
  • People Management
    • Providing leadership and direction to the Regional Support Team (RST) and the NI Committee.
    • Motivating and engaging volunteers to contribute to the delivery of the ICE Plan.
    • Progressing and implementing professional development plans for RST staff.
  • Financial Management
    • Preparing and managing the regional budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Monitoring and reporting on financial performance.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Significant experience in civil engineering, infrastructure, construction or related sectors.
  • Proven track record of managing a team and working with volunteers.
  • Experience in business planning, budgeting and financial management.
  • Excellent relationship building, communication and influencing skills at a senior level.
  • Experience in project management and event delivery.
  • Experience of interaction with infrastructure stakeholders.
  • Passion for civil and infrastructure engineering and a commitment to promoting the profession.
