Job Summary

Gap Technical Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Blackburn. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of mechanical systems for a global manufacturing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of mechanical systems, including District Heating systems, energy centre design, and HVAC / Building Services design.
  • Develop and implement detailed design concepts, including initial project conceptual work, site investigations, client meetings, and input into project submissions and presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design solutions meet business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in design principles, including heating/cooling distribution, boiler/CHP systems, ventilation systems, flue systems, and general HVAC/building services engineering.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, and apply knowledge of heat pump technology and other technologies such as gas turbines to design solutions.

Requirements

  • Qualified to Degree level, with demonstrable experience in a design/design build environment.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring design risk reviews.
  • Experience with training and mentoring engineers.
  • Sound understanding of design principles, including heating/cooling distribution, boiler/CHP systems, ventilation systems, flue systems, and general HVAC/building services engineering.
  • Good understanding of current Building Regulations.
  • Familiarity with National Design Specifications (NES/NBS) and competence in AutoCAD (2D).
  • Innovation and creativity in developing engineering solutions while ensuring efficiency, profitability, and high quality.
  • Fluency with the RIBA Plan of Work and relevant design standards and stages.
