We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Microbiology department as an Associate Practitioner. As an Associate Practitioner, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our laboratory services. You will work closely with our Biomedical Scientist staff to provide rapid, timely, and high-quality results for our patients.
Main DutiesThe main duties of the Associate Practitioner will include undertaking manual, semi-automated, and fully automated laboratory investigations using a variety of analytical techniques under supervision. You will contribute to providing a professional laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of our overall department. You will liaise with senior laboratory staff and laboratory medical staff to ensure safe, rapid, and timely processing of samples and accurate reporting of results.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake laboratory investigations using a variety of analytical techniques under supervision.
- Contribute to providing a professional laboratory service, working effectively as a team member.
- Liaise with senior laboratory staff and laboratory medical staff to ensure safe, rapid, and timely processing of samples and accurate reporting of results.
- Take the lead in the preparation and processing and analysis of clinical specimens under the direct supervision of band 6 and band 7 staff.
- Help to manage, coordinate, roster, and supervise a team of band 2 and 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant staff working in the laboratory on a daily basis.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Level 4 Science Qualification (BSc, HNC/HND or foundation degree, BTEC in a science area or equivalent) and/or evidence of commenced progress with the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part I and Part II. You will also need to have extensive work experience of working in a diagnostic Pathology laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Assistant, experience of working in a diagnostic microbiology lab, and experience of using a laboratory computer system.
