Position Overview

As a key member of the Sport Development Team, you will spearhead the advancement of the Netball Club at the University of Glasgow.

Your role will involve leading training sessions for both Performance and Development squads, as well as overseeing the 1st team during competitive matches, which typically occur on Wednesdays and weekends.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in recruiting and nurturing self-employed and volunteer coaches for the club's six teams.

Collaboration with the Performance Sport Manager, Club Committees, and other Sport Development Team members will be essential to attract top-tier student athletes and elevate the performance of UofG's Netball club in national and student competitions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Inspire and guide the Netball program, articulating a strategic vision and ensuring that staff and volunteers align with broader UofG Sport and University goals.

  2. Design and implement training programs for all squads within the Glasgow University Netball Club, promoting high performance and player development alongside academic commitments.

  3. Lead training sessions for the Performance and Development Squads throughout the season, prioritizing high performance and player growth.

  4. Oversee the coaching framework within the club, including the recruitment of additional coaches to enhance the program and ensuring quality coaching is accessible to all squads.

  5. Develop and initiate Netball camps for the local community, creating job opportunities for student coaches and generating funds for the netball program.

  6. Achieve annual Key Performance Indicators established with the University of Glasgow Sport Leadership Team, aligning with the strategic objectives of UofG Sport.

  7. Monitor and evaluate the program, identifying new initiatives to maintain a professional and driven environment.

  8. Collaborate effectively with colleagues, particularly those involved in program administration, and leverage expertise in areas such as strength and conditioning.

  9. Represent the University Netball Program, advocating for and actively recruiting the best prospective student athletes.

  10. Contribute to the development and execution of innovative services and broader UofG Sport development projects that enhance the student experience.

  11. Provide mentorship to all coaches involved in the program, offering support mechanisms to help them reach their potential.

  12. Maintain and enhance professional knowledge of current issues related to netball and represent the University's interests at various meetings and conferences.

  13. Establish and nurture relationships with key internal and external departments and organizations to enhance service quality and program value.

  14. Build partnerships with local communities to support the University's strategic aims regarding local engagement and program development.

  15. Ensure the welfare of all club members and coaches is prioritized, providing guidance for improving welfare practices.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • SCQF Level 8 (HND, SVQ4) or equivalent, with relevant experience in a similar role.
  • UKCC Level 2 Netball Coach (or equivalent).
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Current First Aid Qualification (minimum Emergency First Aid) or ability to obtain accredited status.
  • Extensive knowledge of the structure and organization of British/Scottish Student Sport.
  • In-depth understanding of Netball in Scotland and university-level netball.

Desirable:

  • Degree-level education.
  • UKCC Level 3 Netball Coach.
  • UKCC Level 2 Strength and Conditioning (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of current trends in the sports performance sector.

Skills:

  • Exceptional coaching abilities.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Capability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High-quality presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy with athletes of varying ages and abilities.
  • Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Office applications.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated competencies in similar roles.
  • Relevant experience in performance coaching.
  • Experience in high-performance netball coaching or playing.
  • Proven track record in developing and reviewing high-performance training programs.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring coaches.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience in enhancing student experiences.
  • Partnership development and delivery experience.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum pro rata. This position is part-time (21 hours per week) and fixed-term for up to 2 years.
