Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Hillingdon, Greater London, England

Job Type: Contract - Full-Time

Primary Industry: Education and Training

Secondary Industry: Social Services

Salary: £80 - £95 Per day

Benefits: Plus CPD (Continuing Professional Development)

Job Duties:
  • Support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their educational and social development
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated lessons to meet individual needs
  • Provide one-on-one support to students with specific learning difficulties
  • Implement strategies to promote inclusion and participation of students with SEND
  • Help students with communication and language difficulties, including the use of British Sign Language (BSL) if required
  • Assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in managing their behaviour and emotional well-being
  • Support students during educational outings and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with the school's SEND coordinator and other professionals to develop individual education plans
  • Provide feedback to the class teacher on student progress and highlighting any concerns or issues
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant certification or training in supporting students with SEND
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a SEND setting
  • Good understanding of various special educational needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge of strategies and interventions to support students with SEND
  • Familiarity with British Sign Language (BSL) is highly desirable
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with students, teachers, and parents
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students with SEND
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Higher education qualification in Education or a related field
  • Additional training or certification in British Sign Language (BSL)
Working Conditions:
  • Working hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Contract duration: As specified in the contract
  • Work environment: School setting, primarily within classrooms and other educational spaces
  • May involve physical activities such as assisting students with mobility, lifting, or supporting students with physical disabilities
