Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate journalist to join our team as an Assistant Editor. As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for managing news reporters, subbing and editing copy, and ensuring high-quality content meets our standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage news reporters to achieve digital audience growth and engagement targets
  • Sub and edit copy and headlines to high standards, ensuring all content meets legal and IPSO requirements
  • Support reporters in producing strong exclusive content and ensuring teams beat rivals to breaking news
  • Ensure effective use of social media and SEO tools by newsroom staff
  • Deputise for editors as needed, fostering a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions
  • Be an ambassador for our region's brands and the business as a whole, in person and via social media, acting as a champion for our news brands
  • Support local and executive management in the delivery of overall strategy
  • This role will involve working shifts on a rota basis, including some weekends and evenings, so a flexible approach is required

Requirements

  • Experience as a journalist with an NCTJ or equivalent qualification (or time served)
  • Proven track record of sourcing, writing, and publishing news content in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Excellent storytelling techniques and a superb knowledge of social media
  • Ability to manage and support people, drive traffic to content, and have an unbeatable news sense
