Senior Ecologist - Midlands

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team in the Midlands. As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in providing expert ecological advice and guidance to our clients across various sectors, including rail, civils, and construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct ecological assessments, appraisals, and surveys for protected species and habitats, ensuring compliance with current industry guidelines and procedures.
  2. Produce high-quality report documentation to document the findings of survey work, with assistance provided as needed.
  3. Assess and collate publicly available data and data obtained from local groups and centres as part of the desktop study.
  4. Provide ecological advice and guidance to clients, consulting with Principal/Senior Ecologist or team members as required.
  5. Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices through private reading, participation in external activities, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  6. Assist and mentor junior or less experienced team members in their day-to-day work and professional development.
  7. Provide high-level technical review of reports prior to approval and submission to clients.
  8. Support the Managing Director/Management Team in operational duties.
Requirements:
  1. At least two years of experience as a Senior Ecologist.
  2. Must possess at least two species licenses.
  3. Demonstrated experience in fieldwork, including habitat and bat surveys.
  4. A solid track record in office-based consultancy tasks such as reporting and mapping.
  5. Level 1 Class Licence for bat surveys, with other survey licenses welcomed.
  6. Strong botanical identification skills.
  7. Experience in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments and using the UKHab classification.
  8. Capability to conduct regular fieldwork.
Preferred but Not Essential:
  1. Membership of CIEEM.
  2. Level 2 Class Licence for bat surveys.
  3. Licenses for other protected species surveys.
  4. Experience in EPS Mitigation Licensing.
  5. Proficiency in GIS mapping.
  6. Understanding of relevant protected species planning policies, including the NPPF and local plans, in relation to development.

The remuneration package offered will include a basic salary between £30,000 - £50,000, plus additional benefits such as health, pension, laptop, and mobile phone.
