Associate - IP/Data Practice

We are seeking a mid to senior level associate to join our growing Intellectual Property and Data practice in London.

Overview – IP/ Data Team

Our Commercial IP/IT team provides strategic advice and support to clients in the tech and life sciences sectors. The team's expertise spans a range of transactions, including standalone IP advisory work, licensing and commercial agreements, M&A, IPOs, restructurings, joint ventures, and carve-outs. Associates will work closely with trainees and the Freshfields' Legal Services Centre to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on a range of IP, IT, and data issues across all sectors.
  • Lead complex separation and carve-out projects, coordinating internal specialist teams and taking a lead client-facing role in managing projects and negotiating transaction documents.
  • Develop a strong internal network within Freshfields globally and work collaboratively with colleagues from other teams, especially on wider transactional deals.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives that help strengthen client relationships.

Requirements:

  • Intellectual acumen, with top-class academics.
  • Commercial/IP/IT transactional experience (likely to have at least 2-6 years post-qualification experience).
  • Deep knowledge of commercial contract law, intellectual property, and information technology as it relates to large, commercial transactions.
  • Excellent technical skills, recognized for own expertise, and the ability to draft complex legal documents clearly and in plain English.
People and Team:

Able to work effectively as part of a team (including coaching and mentoring more junior lawyers).

Project Management:

Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
