Position Overview

As a Cyber Security Architect, you will be an integral part of the Abcam Digital Cyber Security team. The Global Cyber Security division is responsible for overseeing security operations, risk management, and the strategic governance of Abcam's information security management system.

The role of the security architect involves close collaboration with the Abcam Architecture Team, as well as inter-departmental and international cooperation, to deliver timely, secure, resilient, and cost-effective solutions that fulfill business requirements and enhance Abcam's security framework.

The ideal candidate will possess advanced analytical capabilities and knowledge to define and uphold architectural, engineering, and design principles. You should be highly technical and proficient in the cybersecurity aspects of cloud systems (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS) alongside traditional technology infrastructures. Proven experience with AWS and Microsoft Azure is essential.

A successful candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking abilities necessary for managing complex systems and applications, be skilled in collaborating with business units, and possess excellent listening and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the cyber security architecture initiatives.
  • Design and implement scalable, resilient solutions across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Assist enterprise and solutions architects by clearly defining and documenting security control requirements.
  • Collaborate with the corporate security function to define, document, and enhance Abcam's security standards and patterns.
  • Advise on strategies and best practices for cybersecurity and flexible architecture.
  • Integrate and automate secure CI/CD build configurations for development pipelines.
  • Support strategy and implementation for business continuity and disaster recovery objectives.
  • Work closely with team leads and subject matter experts to ensure configurations are aligned and implemented effectively.
  • Oversee the cyber security aspects of the Architecture Review Board (ARB) process and participate in ARB and Change Approval Board meetings.
  • Engage with business stakeholders in project and implementation meetings to provide guidance on secure application and infrastructure configurations.
Required Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity best practices and standards.
  • Ability to influence technical teams and business units to minimize attack surfaces.
  • Capacity to understand complex technical infrastructures, managed services, and third-party dependencies.
  • Knowledge of regulations such as GDPR, PCI, SOX, CCPA, ISO 27001, and NIST 800-53.
  • Experience with zero trust network access, encryption, perimeter security controls, OS security controls, data protection, vulnerability management, API security, Identity, SIEM, EDR, SBoM security, and cloud-native security controls.
  • Familiarity with cloud posture management and both cloud-native and traditional security controls.
  • Understanding of common threats including malware, phishing, ransomware, DDoS, and web & mobile application security risks.
  • Experience with patching and vulnerability management practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across various organizational levels.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in cyber security, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with TOGAF or SABSA frameworks.
  • Certifications such as GCSA, CCSP, CCSK, or CISSP, or those offered by AWS or Microsoft are preferred.
