Position Overview: Culinary Specialist
Job Title:Culinary Specialist
Salary:£26,200 - £28,000
Work Schedule:Full-time (35 hours per week) from 8am to 3.30pm
Reporting To:Centre Manager
Annual Leave:20 days plus 8 days off for bank holidays
Contract Type:Permanent (subject to a 6-month probationary period)
Ace of Clubs is a nurturing community dedicated to providing transformative assistance to those who are homeless, vulnerable, or marginalized. We address immediate needs by offering safety, nourishment, warmth, clothing, and access to essential services.
Job Purpose
The primary responsibility is to prepare and serve healthy, appealing meals in a hygienic kitchen environment for individuals utilizing our day centre services. The demand for meals can vary significantly.
Candidate Profile
- Experienced chef with a passion for food and a commitment to making a positive impact through nutritious meal preparation.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the catering and hospitality sector, with a background in preparing meals for large groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage kitchen operations and oversee volunteer contributions.
- Physical stamina to endure a full working day in a dynamic kitchen setting.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and adapt to changing circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare a diverse and healthy menu on a daily basis.
- Maintain knowledge of food safety protocols and implement them consistently.
- Utilize food donations efficiently to create daily meals while adhering to budget constraints.
- Ensure proper stock rotation and disposal of expired items.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and storage areas.
- Address any inquiries related to meal preparation and allergen management.
- Contribute to special events with themed menus.
Kitchen Management
- Keep accurate records of kitchen operations, including temperature logs and cleaning schedules.
- Collaborate with the Centre Manager for regular inspections and address any issues promptly.
- Report maintenance needs in a timely manner.
- Understand and apply health and safety regulations in the kitchen environment.
Volunteer Coordination
- Delegate tasks to volunteers and provide necessary support and guidance.
- Ensure adequate coverage during meal times and manage post-meal clean-up.
- Enforce food safety practices among volunteers.
Additional Duties
- Be open to performing other related tasks as required, including participation in social activities outside regular hours.
- Availability to work on designated holidays as needed.
Qualifications
- Basic education to GCSE level.
- Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene certification in catering, or willingness to obtain.
Experience Requirements
- Proven experience in preparing healthy meals for large groups.
- Familiarity with HACCP systems and food safety management.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and their application in a kitchen setting.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Proficient in English, capable of completing necessary food safety documentation.
- Ability to create visually appealing and nutritious meals from available resources.
- Understanding of food allergen management.
