Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Assembly Team Leader, the Mechanical Assembly Specialist will be responsible for the assembly and commissioning of machinery, machine modules, and sub-assemblies based on engineering schematics and 3D models. The ideal candidate, preferably with an apprenticeship background, should possess a meticulous attention to detail and a solid understanding of engineering methodologies.

As part of a compact manufacturing team, the successful applicant must demonstrate flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to collaborate effectively both in a team setting and independently.

Key Responsibilities

Within the designated operational area, the Mechanical Assembly Specialist will:

  • Adhere to all departmental protocols
  • Assemble components to specified standards, including: machine construction, modular assemblies, and sub-assemblies
  • Complete all necessary quality documentation associated with tasks
  • Identify and report issues with assemblies or components, following company protocols for quality concerns
  • Operate handling equipment and machinery, once adequately trained
  • Contribute to maintaining and enhancing housekeeping and health and safety standards
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of 5S practices
  • Support the achievement of the Assembly operational objectives, including timely delivery and build efficiency
  • Actively promote continuous improvement initiatives
  • Fulfill any other reasonable requests from the management team

The success of the job holder will be evaluated based on, but not limited to:

  • Completing assemblies within the designated timeframe
  • Meeting quality standards as required
  • Submitting all quality documentation accurately and promptly

Required Knowledge and Skills

The candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and understanding Bills of Materials
  • Familiarity with mechanical design assembly processes
  • Previous experience in machine manufacturing assembly
  • Competence in assembling large fabricated components according to engineering specifications
  • Ability to handle various components, including sheet metal, machined parts, and electrical elements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good numerical aptitude
  • Computer literacy
  • Possession of a counterbalance forklift license (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles (preferred)
