Job Title: Head of Counselling and Practice

EACH Counselling is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Counselling and Support services. As Head of Counselling and Practice, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, and needs-led services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee the smooth running of trainee/counsellor volunteering and peer-led programmes.
  2. Ensure clinical governance work, including internal meetings, clinical audits, actions, and reporting on progress.
  3. Develop and organise an annual programme of practice-based training and learning.
  4. Provide clinical direction, support, and guidance to ensure services across EACH are safe, proactive, and of high standard.
  5. Recruit and manage external clinical supervisors and ensure adequate supervision of counsellors.
  6. Provide clinical supervision and annual appraisals, and reflective practice as required.
  7. Keep up to date or create policies and procedures relevant to maintain and continually improve clinical practice and therapeutic work in line with BACP and other professional bodies.
  8. Provide direction and management to the clinical work within EACH's social enterprise (Life Therapies), including assessments, allocations, and clinical supervision.
  9. Hold and manage an appropriate small caseload where appropriate, including conducting assessments, care-planning, reviews, and planned discharges.
Requirements:
  1. Registration and Accreditation as a counsellor with BACP/UKCP/BPS/BABCP/NCPS etc.
  2. Qualified to provide clinical supervision.
  3. Evidence of relevant CPD.
  4. Line management experience or experience of supervising the work of other staff/volunteers within the health and social care or voluntary sector.
  5. Experience of working within service level agreements and contracts.
  6. Experience of providing structured counselling/psychotherapy within a recognised framework in a relevant field e.g. substance misuse, domestic abuse, trauma, mental health.
  7. Experience of (or competency to) providing clinical supervision.
  8. Experience of developing and delivering training sessions, workshops.
  9. Experience of positive and effective team working.
  10. Experience of working as a clinical practitioner with people from diverse social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  11. Knowledge and experience dealing with safeguarding issues and appropriate responses.
