About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Health Nurse to join our multidisciplinary cleft team. The successful candidate will provide specialist expertise and advice in the management of children with clefts of the lip and/or palate and their families within the North West, the Isle of Man, and the North Wales Clinical Network.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in paediatric nursing, with experience in working with children with clefts and their families. They will be able to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in clinical care, demonstrated through the agreed competency framework.

The caseload will primarily be in the Alder Hey side of the Network, which includes Merseyside, Cheshire, Wirral, North Wales, and Lancashire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist expertise and advice in the management of children with clefts of the lip and/or palate and their families.
  • Exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in clinical care, demonstrated through the agreed competency framework.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary cleft team to provide high-quality care to children and their families.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice and specialty.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of care.

Person Specification
  • ORSCN/RN Child or Registered Health Visitor
  • First Level Degree or working towards/Equivalent experience
  • Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice/specialty
  • Demonstrable experience at Band 6
  • Ability to travel to hospital sites and patients' homes within the whole North West Network during working hours and whilst on call
  • Evidence of implementation of research-based practice
  • Evidence of audits undertaken and outcomes
  • Experience of working on a Paediatric/neonatal ward
  • Evidence of presentations at local and National level
  • Experience working in a community setting
  • Experience of Cleft lip and palate
