We are excited to present an opportunity for a Senior Construction Operations Manager to enhance the SSEN Transmission site construction capabilities while overseeing a series of significant capital projects within our Transmission business framework. Reporting directly to the Lead Project Manager, you will assume comprehensive leadership and management responsibilities for the construction team in your designated area, ensuring that all site operations are executed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate will serve as a pivotal leader for their construction team, aiding in the planning of site operations during the development phase of various projects and guiding the construction team to represent the organization on-site during the construction phase, ensuring that contractors adhere to contractual obligations and SSEN Transmission policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall accountability for the recruitment and professional development of team members, including Construction Site Managers, Site Supervisors, and Trainee Construction Managers to align with project portfolio needs.
- Provide strategic management and leadership to the construction team, ensuring adherence to CDM Regulations, evaluating contractor performance, and defining the key responsibilities of construction team members.
- Collaborate with fellow Senior Construction Managers to identify deficiencies in current processes and systems. Develop and document requirements to create and maintain construction manuals for all aspects of the construction team role, detailing processes, systems, and related documentation for on-site use.
- Consider SSEN Transmission's future project commitments and pinpoint critical stages of the development phase where construction team involvement is essential for future project success. This includes site selection for substations, route selection for overhead lines and underground cables, program development, drafting and issuing Project Specific Works Information, reviewing Contractor ITT submissions and Part A deliverables, initial commissioning development plans, outage planning, and operational interface requirements.
- Manage external stakeholder engagement concerning all construction-related matters and lead safety forums in collaboration with SHW colleagues.
Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, we would appreciate the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing large-scale, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with NEC contract forms, including prior experience as an NEC Supervisor.
- Possession of or recent holding of site access certifications such as CSCS / EUSR or equivalent, along with site management qualifications including NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS (5-day) or equivalent.
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Ability to comprehend the role of the 'Client' from a CDM and contractual perspective in construction management processes and systems.
