Position: Lead Airworthiness Assurance Engineer – Delivery

Compensation: £47,683 – £52,426

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent airworthiness assurance activities for design certification (qualification and safety) evidence supporting airworthiness certification for Development, Production, and Export clearance programs.
  • Act as the airworthiness point of contact for establishing flight limitations in collaboration with System Design Responsibility teams, Flight Operations, and external clients.
  • Develop and issue Flight Certification (Military Permit to Fly) for both Development and Production Aircraft.
  • Generate and provide Flight Certification (Release to Service) for Export Clients.
  • Perform independent airworthiness assurance for emerging flight safety concerns impacting Development aircraft, leading to the issuance of Flight Safety Procedures (Additional Flight Limitations/Flight Safety Messages) to BAE Systems Partner Companies and their operators.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of BAE Systems and flight certification and design certification processes.
  • Represent Airworthiness at Typhoon/Tornado/Hawk/FCAS project meetings, including support for external client discussions.
  • Establish and execute engineering activities utilizing systems integration and systems engineering methodologies.
  • Maintain the initial integrity of Air products through production challenges and reviews of design, certification, and assurance evidence in accordance with market legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Validate and critique initial evidence through professional judgment and constructive feedback, conducting audits and assurance activities, including participation in design and phase review assessments as necessary.
  • Restore the integrity of Air products through investigation, root cause analysis, technical documentation (utilizing technical writing skills), and advising on potential design modifications.
  • Leverage learning across Air and other BAE Systems Units, Customers, and Suppliers through appropriate alerting, lessons learned, and promotional processes.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a STEM discipline or relevant experience.
  • Experience in Aircraft Avionic and Mechanical systems design and Aerodynamic disciplines.
  • Familiarity with design configuration control processes.
  • Knowledge of design certification (qualification and safety) and airworthiness processes.
  • Understanding of aircraft operations.
  • Proficiency in analytical methods to support the establishment of integrated aircraft level flight limitations.
