About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Coder to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Clinical Coder, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient data, using your knowledge of medical terminology and classification systems to assign codes and input data into our Patient Administration System (PAS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign codes from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD10), Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS4) and SNOMED applying National and International rules to agreed standards.
  • Input coded data onto the PAS for all Inpatient, Day Case and Waiting List episodes.
  • Use your knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy & physiology to translate information where clinical description does not map to an exact code.
  • Work on your own initiative within standard departmental procedures and manage day-to-day workloads, referring more complex issues to more senior colleagues.
  • Ensure that coding is carried out in an accurate, timely and complete manner to meet the Trust's 10 day deadline for statutory information requirements and financial flows.
Requirements
  • 5 GCSE or equivalent to include Mathematics / English.
  • NVQ Level 3.
  • Computer literate with experience of applying this in the work environment.
  • General administrative office experience.
