Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned Specialist Nurse with leadership and mentorship capabilities to join the Clinical Day Case Unit/Theatre Team, dedicated to delivering outstanding patient care at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

The individual in this role will be tasked with overseeing the team on a daily basis. Candidates should be receptive to innovative approaches to help us achieve our goal of providing high-volume Ophthalmic Day Case Surgery.

While prior experience in Ophthalmology is not mandatory, familiarity with admissions and day case surgical procedures would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

The primary function of the Specialist Nurse is to offer both clinical and managerial guidance to the nursing and multidisciplinary team at the Centre of Excellence for Eyes. This role involves acting as a clinical authority and expert practitioner, collaborating, guiding, and advising the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care throughout the surgical day case pathway.

The Specialist Nurse will regularly assess the clinical records of patients under their care, evaluate the effectiveness of care planning and delivery, and utilize the findings to collaborate with the team in enhancing patient outcomes. In their leadership capacity, they will provide constructive feedback on both exemplary and subpar practices to team members, ensuring effective role modeling and mentorship.

Additionally, the Specialist Nurse is expected to take an active role in quality and service enhancement, working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and the multidisciplinary team, assisting in the evaluation of clinical care standards within their area of expertise. This includes fostering a positive working environment where all patients receive exemplary care.
