Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimating Engineer to join our team at MDE Consultants Ltd. As a Senior Estimating Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting technical and contractual reviews of tender enquiries, preparing precise estimates, and overseeing the efficient and effective provision of estimates for projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial technical and contractual reviews of tender enquiries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare detailed estimates using computerized estimating packages and Microsoft Word/Excel, adhering to QA procedures.
  • Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers/subcontractors for project estimates, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • Perform detailed take-offs to provide comprehensive information for tender reviews and financial control of contracts.
  • Collaborate with internal divisions/departments to gather relevant quotations and information for tenders, promoting effective communication and teamwork.
  • Attend site visits and tender review meetings with clients (both UK and overseas), representing MDE Consultants Ltd with professionalism and expertise.
  • Attend kick-off meetings to brief the project team if the tender is successful, ensuring a smooth transition and project execution.
  • Oversee and advise Estimating Engineers to ensure completeness and timely submission of tenders, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate discipline qualifications (HNC, ONC, or City and Guilds).
  • Considerable experience in estimating work packages to industry standards, particularly in chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, utilities, and food & drink sectors.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of current estimating and commercial practices.
  • Good understanding of engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with project management practices.
  • Knowledge of HSE systems and compliance.
  • Understanding of QA systems and compliance.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels within the organization and with clients.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • People management skills and knowledge of performance management processes for leadership, coaching, and staff development.
