This position offers an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to contribute to a project focused on identifying novel disease-modifying therapies for MND/ALS. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting molecular assays of tissue samples
- Performing histology, genomic, and proteomic analysis of post-mortem tissue
- Curation and analysis of large datasets generated
- Collaborating with colleagues to achieve research objectives
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the research programme of the School/Institute under the guidance of a member of academic staff or Principal Investigator
- Analyse and interpret research data, drawing conclusions on outcomes
- Coordinate own work with that of others, dealing with problems affecting research objectives
- Present research progress and outcomes to a Principal Investigator or research group
- Write up results from own research activity and contribute to the research project's dissemination
- Work to deadlines, managing competing priorities
- Ensure personal knowledge in relevant fields is kept up to date
- Use research resources as appropriate
- Maintain academic standards and freedom, working in accordance with university policies
Requirements
- Good honours degree (2.1 or above) in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, natural sciences, or equivalent, with some subject knowledge in neuroscience
- Good analytical skills, particularly data analysis, and ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a team
- Ability to use personal initiative and creativity to solve research problems
- Experience of research with clear transferable skills and some experience or awareness of the research environment
