About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at the City of Birmingham. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of equipment and vehicles, including heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and other machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles, including hydraulic systems, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Inspect and diagnose problems with equipment and vehicles, and perform repairs as needed.
  • Fabricate parts and equipment as required, using welding, cutting, and machining techniques.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including metal cutters, welding equipment, and pneumatic wrenches.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on safety and quality.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of welding, cutting, and machining techniques.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
