About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Train Preparer to join our team at Colas Rail. As a Train Preparer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight trains on our network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare freight trains for service, ensuring all necessary checks and inspections are completed.
  • Facilitate train movements to and from the operational railway, working closely with train drivers and other rail staff.
  • Control freight train movements in a defined area of responsibility, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and operational procedures.
  • Carry out shunting and train preparation duties, including coupling and uncoupling of wagons and locomotives.
  • Conduct load examination duties to railway industry standards.
  • Operate ground frames and hand points as required to facilitate train movements.
  • Assist maintenance and servicing staff with technical examinations of rolling stock.
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Be prepared to lodge away from home when required.
Requirements
  • Experienced train preparer to meet current industry standards.
  • Personal Track Safety certification.
  • Rules and Regulations competence.
  • Freight Train Operations, Loading, and Rolling Stock Examination knowledge.
