Smart Grid Solutions Architect for Utilities
Compensation:
Up to £500 per day (inside IR35)

Role Overview:
This position involves consulting with businesses on strategic opportunities related to the operational technology (OT) landscape roadmap and strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver functional and technical architectural expertise in various aspects of OT/ADMS/DERMS/DRMS implementations, including solution architecture, system design, blueprinting, roadmap development, gap analysis, and system implementation approaches.
2. Facilitate the execution of engagements to assist electric utilities in managing OT systems such as SCADA, ADMS, EMS, GIS, and AMI, focusing on planning, implementation, testing, and operational support.
3. Assist in defining business requirements, developing requests for proposals, and evaluating vendors.
4. Support the proposal evaluation and selection process, develop statements of work, and negotiate vendor contracts.
5. Oversee solution design, documentation, planning, implementation, vendor management, testing, and acceptance.
Essential Skills:
Technical Proficiencies:
Utilize relevant utility experience to engage with client utilities, understanding their specific applications, methodologies, and approaches in Electric Distribution Operational systems.
Hands-on experience with OEM ADMS & OMS solutions such as GE PowerOn, GE eTerra, ABB Network Manager, Oracle NMS, OATI, Schneider, or Siemens Grid systems is essential.
Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, .Net) and databases (SQL, MySQL) is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of hardware, software, and architecture, including market trends and consulting experience.
Familiarity with ADMS and DERMS implementations, whether on-premises or cloud-based (Azure/AWS), is crucial.
Understanding of ADMS/DERMS system functionalities, including load forecasting, demand management, DER resource scheduling, and network congestion management.
Knowledge of GIS systems (Smallworld, ESRI) and Smart AMI metering is preferred.
Expertise in ADMS functionalities related to fault management, feeder reconfiguration, load-shedding, and voltage control is advantageous.
Experience in electric utilities or consulting entities servicing this domain is highly valued.
Familiarity with IT/OT and security standards (e.g., NERC CIP) is beneficial.
Expertise in developing requirements, testing, acceptance, and transition processes is expected.
Knowledge of current standards and regulations governing power systems is essential.
Industry Knowledge:
A solid understanding of electric utility distribution planning, engineering, and operations is required.
Knowledge of electricity generation, distributed generation, energy storage, and associated controls is necessary.
Utilize specialized utility system design and planning knowledge to produce complex work products and solutions across various engagements.
Assess the effectiveness of clients' use of tools, applications, and processes to adapt to new OT applications for solution areas such as DERMS, DRMS, ADMS, OMS, and SCADA.
Apply appropriate methods to meet identified client needs and anticipate technical problems, seeking assistance when necessary.
Experience Required:
A Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering, or a similar technical field is mandatory.
At least 10 years of experience in business and technical consulting or relevant engagement implementation services in ADMS, DERMS, or SCADA is required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in electricity systems is essential.
