About the Role

Cranfield University's Centre for Defence Chemistry is seeking a highly skilled Research Fellow to contribute to the development of insensitive explosive formulations using conventional and processing techniques.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing the compatibility, hazard, and thermal properties of novel explosive formulations
  • Investigating various process methods and developing safe process workflows
  • Conducting trials to study the effects of processing parameters on the final product properties
  • Carrying out pressing studies on novel compositions to establish and maintain an international reputation in energetic materials

You will also work on existing formulation research contracts and support projects within the Centre, collaborating closely with colleagues and utilizing our facilities effectively.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD (or nearing completion) in a chemistry-related subject area and experience working with energetic materials. You should have a strong understanding of analytical skills and techniques, as well as evidence of collaboration work with other research groups. Familiarity with the contemporary challenges facing the defence sector in the UK and beyond is essential.
