Job Summary:

This is a management role within the Ministry of Justice, responsible for overseeing the food services operations in a correctional facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the provision of meals for prisoners, maintaining a safe working environment, and managing a team of staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the planning, preparation, and serving of meals to prisoners, ensuring quality and quantity meet established standards.
  2. Monitor and maintain a safe working environment, including kitchen equipment and facilities, to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  3. Manage a team of staff, including prisoner workforce, to ensure effective induction, training, and supervision.
  4. Implement and manage food safety management systems, including hygiene assessments and risk assessments, to ensure compliance with regulations.
  5. Estimate, order, and manage resources, including food and ingredients, to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  6. Act as a point of contact for external and internal stakeholders, including Independent Monitoring Body and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons.
  7. Manage devolved budgets, staff performance, and development, and ensure compliance with financial procedures.
  8. Ensure all HMPPS standards and Service Delivery Indicators are implemented and managed within the relevant work area.
  9. Attend relevant boards and meetings, and contribute to the preparation of prison contingency and emergency plans.

Requirements:

  • Must hold qualifications and competences of F&S Supervisor – Catering, including a Food Hygiene Level 4 Diploma or equivalent Level 4 award in HACCP.
  • Must be familiar with applying all current health, safety, and hygiene-related regulations that apply in a working kitchen environment.
  • Must demonstrate previous competency at supervising or managing staff within a kitchen environment.

Working Arrangements:

The Ministry of Justice offers hybrid working arrangements, where business need allows. This role requires regularly working unpredictable and unsocial hours and being on call to attend the workplace at any time.
