Palliative Care Nurse Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Palliative Care Nurse to join our team at NHS Scotland. As a Palliative Care Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients and their families, working in a dynamic and evolving speciality.

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing care needs, planning and developing nursing programmes, and implementing and evaluating these programmes as part of the multi-disciplinary team. You will work closely with patients, relatives, and visitors, ensuring that their needs are met and that they receive the highest standard of care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the implementation of Hospice Core Values and Mission in practice.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the importance of etiquette and good conduct within the Hospice environment.
  • Ensure an effective delivery of nursing care is provided to patients and that the highest standard of care is maintained.
  • Provide a safe environment for the treatment of patients and protection of staff.
  • Participate in education and training programmes as required.
  • Participate in rotation and redeployment of staff as required.
  • Implement all policies, procedures, and practices as introduced at Induction, Mandatory Training, and throughout mentorship experience.
  • Undertake all duties in accordance with legislation, Hospice philosophy, and recognised professional standards and guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Accountable for their own practice and development.
  • Carries out allocated duties efficiently and effectively and, where appropriate, delegates and ensures that other members of the nursing team provide nursing care to agreed standards.
  • Responsible for the safety of patients and ensuring that safe working practices are maintained within the Unit.
  • Ensures that accurate records of care are maintained according to NMC standards, Hospice Policy, and Protocol, and in line with legal requirements.
  • Implements the highest standards of infection prevention and control, following guidance as per the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual, the Hospice Infection Control Manual, including Specific Infections, the Ward Manager, and Senior Nurse Management Team to monitor safe usage of PPE and safe working practices.
