We are seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team in the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department within Blood Sciences at the University Hospital of North Midlands. This role is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site, with the expectation of providing cover at the County Hospital in Stafford as required.
Main Responsibilities- Undertake complex analysis of samples according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures, including the requesting of tests, recording, and reporting of results using highly advanced equipment.
- Utilize knowledge of disease processes and clinical relevance to ensure the appropriateness of diagnostic tests requested, understanding the abbreviations and medical terminology used.
- Participate in and advise on the routine workload, including complex and specialized techniques, using specialist knowledge and experience underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.
- Verify the status and suitability of all samples during processing.
- Perform and verify quality control samples, ensuring accuracy and precision, and take corrective action to maintain analyses within defined parameters.
- Conduct external quality assurance analysis for all techniques in use.
- Relevant degree approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
- Knowledge of relevant laboratory data management systems.
- Understanding of data protection and data quality.
- IBMS Registration Portfolio and Specialist Portfolio.
- Working in a laboratory environment.
- Working in a team and alone.
- Training, inducting, and supporting junior staff.
- Intermediate and accurate IT skills.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills for accuracy and fine adjustment of equipment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical skills with the ability to work methodically and systematically.
- Effectively apply skills and knowledge.
- Work with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to their review and implementation.
- Work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies.
- Perform a wide range of duties as set out in the Job Description.
