Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Children's Nurse to collaborate with our current Specialist Nurse in managing the Children's Spine Service. The ideal candidate will deliver care and support to young patients and their families throughout the entire journey from diagnosis to treatment and eventual discharge.

The service is in a phase of ongoing enhancement, and the successful applicant will be expected to actively contribute to this development, demonstrating a dynamic and proactive approach. The role will serve as a key contact point, coordinating with a diverse multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth and effective care pathway for all patients.

Candidates should possess substantial post-registration experience in pediatric surgical care, a solid understanding of pediatric spinal disorders and their treatments, and the capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a dedicated nurse for pediatric spine care, you will partner with the existing specialist nurse to oversee the service and ensure exceptional, integrated care for all children, young individuals, and families referred to the service. You will be part of a well-established multidisciplinary team (MDT) that is committed to service enhancement and fostering positive experiences for patients and their families. Assist the Multidisciplinary pediatric spine team in delivering effective care. Provide support, education, and guidance to patients, caregivers, and families, ensuring they are kept informed throughout the process. Collaborate with members of broader health, social, and educational teams to deliver a coordinated care package, specialist advice, and training, while attending necessary meetings. Complete Education Health Care Plans and engage in safeguarding initiatives as required. Facilitate supervision with the safeguarding team as necessary. Encourage ward link nurses to participate in knowledge sharing. Attend local, regional, and national meetings. Coordinate the pediatric spine service MDT to facilitate the provision of highly specialized care. Support children, young individuals, and their families who are under observation and treatment for spinal conditions. Educate and provide guidance to patients, families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary team members both within the organization and externally. Engage in research, service evaluations, and audits to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential

RGN/RSCN or RN (Child) BSc (Hons) in Children's Nursing Teaching/assessing qualification. Willingness to pursue a relevant Master's degree, including non-medical prescribing.
