Position: Research Associate in Computational Neuroscience

Grade G(£31, - £36, p.a. pro rata)

Full-time fixed-term contract for 36 months

Role Overview

We invite applications for the position of Research Associate to collaborate with esteemed researchers on a project funded by the Leverhulme Trust, focusing on the intricate relationship between brain morphology and functional activity.

The project aims to create advanced computational tools designed to effectively address neural field models within complex curved geometries. This research will enhance our understanding of how spatial variations in the cortex influence brain functionality across evolutionary contexts. By utilizing cutting-edge computational engineering techniques, we will accurately model brain activity on convoluted cortical structures and investigate the implications of morphological changes on brainwave characteristics across different species and evolutionary stages.

Candidates should possess a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline such as mathematics, engineering, or computing. A solid foundation in computational mathematical modeling is essential. Furthermore, familiarity with one or more of the following areas is highly advantageous: numerical solutions of partial integro-differential equations, isogeometric analysis, numerical bifurcation analysis, and computational geometry.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate confidence, organizational skills, and effective communication abilities. They should thrive in both collaborative and independent work environments. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to scientific publications, present findings at relevant conferences, and undertake regular collaborations with partner institutions, including an extended visit during the latter part of the project. Evidence of previous research outputs that align with their experience level will be considered favorably.

For further information, please refer to the role profile. We welcome applications from individuals who may not meet every single requirement, so please do not hesitate to apply even if you feel you do not match all criteria perfectly.
