About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Software Applications Engineer to join our team at Galliford Try. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, and testing PLC, HMI, and SCADA software, as well as producing associated documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and interpret functional, control, and system requirements of projects and requirements.
  • Design and develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA software, including I/O lists, functional design specifications, and test plans.
  • Program PLCs and HMI's, including Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi, and configure SCADA systems, such as Wonderware, Rockwell, and Siemens.
  • Deliver assigned projects on-time and to cost, in accordance with standards and contractual requirements.
  • Continuously demonstrate expert knowledge of computer and PLC logic and flow-charting.
  • Understand low-voltage electrical systems and drawings.
  • Attend customer sites, upholding the company's culture and values.
  • Review and repair legacy code, as necessary.
  • Conduct system analysis and development, sometimes with limited support from other personnel.
  • Test and prove programs to ensure functionality, logic, and syntax are correct.
  • Document code consistently, ensuring it can be fully understood by others.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, interacting professionally with clients and personnel.
  • Undertake scalability and portability analysis, as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development and harmonization of company processes and knowledge-based systems.

About You:

  • Excellent IT skills, including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Databases.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and logic auto-generation.
  • Mechanical skills and understanding.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Previous professional experience writing PLC code in a customer-focused environment.
  • Solid report writing skills, including functional design specifications and test plans.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Health and Safety awareness.
  • Experience in the industry, particularly in Automotive, Food and Beverage, and Water and Waste sectors.
