Job Title: Assistant Director of Education

We are seeking an experienced and skilled professional to join our team as Assistant Director of Education. This is a key role that will play a vital part in supporting the Diocese of York Education Trust (DYET) and the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) in their governance and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting Governance: Provide strategic leadership and support to the DBE and DYET on matters of governance, policy, and practice.
  • Representing the Diocese: Represent the DBE and DYET on various bodies and committees, ensuring the Diocese's interests are represented.
  • School System Collaboration: Work with the Diocesan Director of Education and the DBE to provide strategic leadership for the planning and development of Church of England schools and academies.
  • Academisation and Governance: Support the DBE and DYET in strategic planning relating to academisation and other forms of collaboration, including input into Diocesan academisation strategy.
  • Guidance and Support: Provide guidance, advice, and support to Church of England schools considering academisation, federation, or confederation, and those developing or reconstituting trust structures.
  • Broad Governance Activity: Provide ongoing Church school-specific governance information, guidance, advice, training, and support to school and academy trust leaders and those involved in CE school governance.
Requirements:
  • Senior Governance Experience: Operate at a senior level within governance, preferably within the education sector.
  • Relationship Building: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including schools, trusts, and local authorities.
  • Christian Purpose: Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to promoting education with a Christian purpose and an understanding of the Church of England's Vision for Education.

This is a full-time post with options for flexible or hybrid working. You will work primarily from our main office in York, with travel around the diocese.
