Senior Cost Manager

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cost Manager to join our team at Turner & Townsend Group. As a Senior Cost Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality cost management services to our clients, ensuring that their projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commissions of varying sizes, depending on the complexity of the project, typically ranging from £10m to £50m.
- Coach junior staff, allocate roles and responsibilities, and ensure effective cost management on all projects.
- Advise clients on feasibility studies, procurement options, and cost planning.
- Manage the estimating and cost planning stages, including presenting the final cost plan to the client.
- Tender and procure, including managing the pre-qualification stage, producing the tender list, and compiling contractual documents.
- Conduct contract administration, deal with post-contract cost variances, and manage change control processes.
- Take personal responsibility for peer reviewing cost allowances and carrying out valuations on larger projects.
- Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to the client.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts.
- Interface with clients, project managers, and other consultants at all project stages.
- Work collaboratively with Turner & Townsend's project management team during project delivery.
- Lead a cost management team where appropriate.
- Utilize our bespoke digital cost management tools and services.
- Implement our Embodied Carbon Calculator to produce carbon footprint reports.
- Support the execution of our NewLeaf strategy.
- Manage internal fees, job costing, and resourcing requirements.
Reporting and Performance Indicators
Depending on the context, a Senior Cost Manager may report to an Associate Director, Project Director, or Director.
The key performance indicators for this role include:
- Commissions are managed to the right quality standards and are completed efficiently and on time.
- Service delivery on commissions is in line with the conditions of appointment.
- Good relationships are developed with clients and members of the cross-functional team.
- The Senior Cost Manager works as an effective member of the cost management team.
- Opportunities are identified to develop new business with existing clients.
- Margin levels are kept track of on all commissions.
- Key information and data are effectively cascaded and appropriately retained.
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Can work with autonomy and take initiative to deliver to tight deadlines.
- Has achieved Chartered Status.
- Has a confident and professional manner.
- Is highly organized and able to prioritize their workload.
- Can collaborate and build relationships across the business.
- Can work well under pressure.
- Can delegate tasks to junior team members to assist in their technical development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality cost management/quantity surveying services across the full project lifecycle.
- Professional qualifications (RICS or similar).
- A degree or HNC level qualification.
- The ability to successfully manage and prioritize more than one project at a time.
