Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged within the Diabetes and Endocrine Department at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking applications for a full-time Consultant specializing in Endocrinology & Diabetes, alongside General Internal Medicine (GIM).

Applicants should have completed their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of obtaining it, or possess an equivalent qualification (CESR).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a consultant-led service that meets the highest standards of patient care.
  • Engage with the multi-disciplinary team to enhance care pathways and establish clinical guidelines.
  • Foster and maintain effective working practices across wards, outpatient services, and emergency departments.
  • Encourage and facilitate strong collaborative relationships with professionals in tertiary centers, community services, and primary care.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior medical staff, nursing teams, and other members of the healthcare team.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • General responsibilities, including participation in the Consultant on-call rota.
  • Conducting specialist clinics.
  • Managing outpatient clinics.
  • Performing surgical procedures as per specialty.
  • Engaging in teaching activities.
  • Providing care for inpatients and outpatients as required.
  • Handling clinical and administrative tasks as agreed.
  • Participating in the training and education of junior staff and medical students.
  • Contributing to Clinical Governance initiatives.

Clinical Governance

The post-holder will:

  • Adhere to the Trust's Clinical Governance policies, which encompass clinical risk management, data collection, and regular departmental audit projects.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Specialist registration in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General (Internal) Medicine or within six months of the expected date of CCT.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Training in appraisal techniques.
  • Postgraduate thesis.
  • DAFNE accreditation.
