Job Title: Senior Safety Case Engineer

Holtec International, a global leader in nuclear energy, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Case Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a critical role in designing the next generation of nuclear power stations.

Job Summary:

The Senior Safety Case Engineer will be responsible for producing or reviewing key supporting references to the Preliminary Safety Report for the Generic Design Assessment (GDA). This requires experience in the production of nuclear safety case documentation in support of a developing reactor design to meet UK regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce or review key supporting references to the Preliminary Safety Report for the GDA
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the US SMR Licensing Team members
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements
  • Conduct safety case production, functional safety assessment, and regulatory interface activities
  • Perform ALARP assessment, safety and risk assessment, deterministic safety assessment, and nuclear safety legislation, regulation, and gap analysis
  • Develop and maintain engineering substantiation, HAZOP, and other identification studies
  • Manage and organize delivery of safety case documentation
Requirements:
  • Degree qualified in an engineering or science-related discipline
  • Excellent credentials in principles of civil nuclear safety case and strategy
  • Ability to demonstrate successful delivery of civil nuclear safety deliverables and strategy
  • Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage credibly within and external to the business
  • Chartered status or working towards
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810
Desirable Experience:
  • Nuclear fire safety assessment and conventional fire safety assessment
  • Probabilistic Safety Assessments
  • Chemistry - experience with structural/material integrity, fuel integrity, radiation fields, waste generation
  • Fuel & Core - experience of safety case for reactor vessel internals, fuel assemblies, neutron sources, and monitoring, control rods
  • Security - experience with secure by design philosophy, protection from sabotage and theft, cyber security & information assurance (CS&IA)
