Job Title: Chief Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to join our team at First Recruitment Group. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of safety cases for nuclear facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and prepare safety documentation for projects, including Hazard Management Strategy, Safety Reports, and ALARP arguments.
  • Coordinate the production of safety submissions, including specialist safety input.
  • Provide nuclear safety input to design projects, ensuring nuclear safety requirements are incorporated.
  • Manage delivery of work undertaken within agreed remit, ensuring cost and programme targets are met.
  • Act as Point of Contact for Key Stakeholders, ensuring adequate communication between teams.
  • Lead and participate in Hazard Identification studies.
  • Coordinate production of safety submissions, including all specialist safety input.
  • Support submissions through review and approval stages.
  • Review and approve design changes, concessions, and technical queries.
  • Manage project risks by closing out safety items on the Technical Issues and Risk Register Database.
  • Raise quality plans for single discipline work packages.
  • Produce, verify, and approve technical Scopes of Work, assessing tender returns, and verifying/assessing and/or approving outputs.
  • Feed back lessons learnt for use on future stages of the current project and other projects.
  • Knowledge in specialist areas of safety case, such as submarines, hydrogen, chemotoxic, etc.
Bid Support:
  • Review bids and designs.
  • Provide nuclear safety input to bids.
  • Produce estimates for bids.
Growth:
  • Build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Grow the business through identification and development of opportunities.
  • Represent the discipline to customers, regulatory, and external bodies.
Functional:
  • Maintain awareness of wider industry processes and project developments.
  • Review industry best practice for implementation.
  • Undertake special duties as specified by the Functional Leader.
  • Ensure deployed resources are suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
  • Direct and supervise the work of technical specialists within the same discipline.
Processes:
  • Input to the development of processes and procedures that are pragmatic, proportionate, scalable, and widely applicable.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are correctly applied to technical activities.
