Assistant Culinary Manager - Rural Setting

Work Environment: A historic estate situated within a picturesque country park, now functioning as a hospitality venue, conference center, and visitor attraction.

Our esteemed client is in search of a culinary professional to enhance their upscale dining offerings. You will collaborate with a welcoming kitchen team, which includes a group of volunteer kitchen aides (the estate is managed by a charitable organization) who will handle most of the preparatory tasks under your guidance, allowing you to focus on cooking and related responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain exemplary standards of food preparation, presentation, and sanitation at all times.
  • Adhere to cleaning protocols to ensure a tidy and organized kitchen space.
  • (when necessary) Cultivate relationships with suppliers and local producers, ensuring the procurement of premium ingredients, and oversee food ordering and inventory management to optimize stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Prepare meals efficiently, reducing waste and enhancing productivity.
  • Inspire colleagues and lead by example, establishing high standards of culinary excellence.
  • Foster a calm, positive, and motivating work atmosphere.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in a comparable position, showcasing a robust culinary background.
  • Familiarity with food preparation, presentation methods, and kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Head Chef and other team members.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Innovative mindset with a flair for creativity in the kitchen.
  • Diligent and committed to maintaining high standards.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about food and dedicated to ongoing improvement.

Compensation: The annual salary is £28,000.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (no overtime required), with shifts including Breakfast 7-3, Day Shift 9-5, and Dinner 12-8, with efforts made to accommodate your preferred shift pattern. Additionally, there is a possibility of providing you with your own accommodation apartment, though this would result in a salary adjustment to reflect this benefit.

Important Note: While your personal beliefs are fully respected, the venue is operated by a Christian Trust with a strong faith-based ethos, and you will be expected to honor this environment. You will experience a culture of respect and care in the treatment of all employees and volunteers, as well as a commitment to environmental stewardship within the country park, including sourcing much of the produce from their volunteer-managed walled garden, which is served to diners shortly after harvest.
