About Citizens Advice: Citizens Advice is a charitable organization dedicated to providing confidential assistance online, via telephone, and in person, at no cost. Through our extensive network of local charities, we empower individuals with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their challenges, regardless of their circumstances.
As a charity committed to serving the entire community, we deliver reliable, practical guidance when it is most needed, supported by volunteers who are integral to the communities they assist.
Our Mission: We advocate for the issues that impact everyone, striving to create a more equitable society. Our frontline services provide us with unique insights into the real-world effects of ineffective policies and practices, highlighting the necessary changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize insights and data from our frontline services to inform our advocacy efforts and raise awareness of critical issues with policymakers.
- Collaborate with our Research and Campaigns teams across local Citizens Advice offices to form a unified advocacy network.
- Engage with our advocacy teams and stakeholders to provide training opportunities, allowing them to spend time assisting clients at local Citizens Advice offices, ensuring our advocacy is grounded in real-world experiences.
Who We Seek:
We are in search of a Government Relations Specialist to join our Public Affairs team, collaborating with colleagues to implement a comprehensive public affairs strategy. This role presents an exciting opportunity to address significant issues affecting individuals across England and Wales, within a directorate known for driving impactful change.
You will engage across various policy domains, contributing to the formulation and execution of strategies that effectively engage decision-makers on pivotal issues and potential solutions. Our strong reputation provides unique opportunities to connect with influential figures capable of making national decisions, and you will play a crucial role in advancing our strategy to influence parliamentarians, government officials, regulators, and industry representatives on behalf of those who depend on our services.
This is an opportune moment to join our organization as we focus our collective efforts on influencing governmental policies. In this capacity, you will guide at least one of our policy teams in their advocacy efforts, assist in developing a political engagement strategy, and foster relationships with parliamentarians and other key stakeholders. You will work closely with external affairs colleagues to create compelling communications and collaborate with our network of local charities.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a collaborative individual with a genuine passion for helping others and a strong interest in the political and social justice landscape. You should possess a keen awareness of the current political environment and emerging developments, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to cultivate positive working relationships. A solid understanding of the UK legislative process and experience in enhancing advocacy capacity within a similar network organization is essential.
Commitment to Diversity:
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are fundamental to our mission and are integrated into all aspects of our service. We strive to build diverse and inclusive teams where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who are underrepresented in our organization and sector, including people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities.
Flexible Work Environment:
As a flexible employer, we offer arrangements that support work-life balance. Many of our team members work primarily remotely, and while we prefer a blended approach between a local office and home, we are open to discussing location flexibility during the interview process.
Wellbeing Commitment:
Our dedication to colleague wellbeing is reflected in our recognition for excellence in health and wellbeing at the Employee Experience Awards.
