About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Epidemiologist to join our team at Public Health Wales. As a key member of our Vaccine Preventable Disease Programme, you will play a critical role in developing and managing aspects of surveillance and epidemiological analysis on vaccine preventable diseases, vaccination programmes, and acute respiratory infections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain existing surveillance systems, including those using new sources of data.
  • Work with senior epidemiologists to implement emerging methods in data science, such as data linkage and machine learning.
  • Collaborate with microbiologists to develop new surveillance methods and support field epidemiology activities.
  • Use advanced data science and statistical methods to analyze complex data sets and provide solutions to public health problems.
  • Develop and deliver training on various topics, including epidemiology and surveillance, to staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Line manage and/or coordinate the work of junior team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
Requirements
  • Master's qualification or equivalent experience in public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Substantial post-graduate experience in relevant scientific work, including experience with large and complex databases.
  • Advanced skills in statistical and database software, such as Stata, MS Access, and R.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach and commitment to applying skills in support of clinical/scientific priorities.
