Job Description

The Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations is seeking a highly qualified Persian Language Instructor to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Modern Persian language structure and skills to students pursuing the MA in Muslim Cultures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach face-to-face Modern Persian language structure and skills at ab initio and post ab initio levels to students pursuing the MA in Muslim Cultures.
  • Prepare and/or update syllabuses and course outlines every semester, including review of course assessment, objectives, and intended outcomes, in liaison with the Language Coordinator.
  • Prepare class materials as necessary.
  • Maintain course VLE pages (Moodle) with course outlines, class materials, and other information.
  • Monitor student progress in coordination with the Manager of Educational Programmes, Head of Educational Programmes, and Language Coordinator.
  • Weekly monitoring of student attendance and production of termly statistics and progress reports.
  • Design, set, mark, and double mark examination papers in accordance with course objectives and ISMC assessment criteria, in conjunction with the Language Coordinator.
  • Invigilate end-of-semester examinations.
  • Attend meetings of examination boards, if required.
  • Attend evaluation meetings, coordination meetings, and other such forums, as required.
  • Advise on matters relating to student education in respect of Persian language, as required.
  • Liaise with the Head of Educational Programmes, Manager of Educational Programmes, Language Coordinator, and other colleagues as necessary.
Requirements
  • A postgraduate degree in Persian with prior experience in teaching Persian language to non-native speakers at the post-graduate level, preferably supported by a recognised language teaching qualification.
  • Experience of teaching and supervising a culturally diverse group of students and faculty.
  • A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity, and dedication to quality/development of student learning.
  • The ability to adopt/develop innovative methods of language teaching.
  • An excellent command of English with proven excellent communication skills.
