About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to join our team at Syon Manor College. As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the education and well-being of our students with autism and complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the subject teacher/tutor to ensure the delivery of a high-quality education for all students, implementing relevant education policies and procedures.
  • Provide individual or group support to students, enabling them to access the curriculum as independently as possible.
  • Promote the physical, educational, and moral development of students, in line with company policies.
  • Support the subject teacher and/or tutor in organizing the classroom, resources, student groupings, and displays to create a stimulating learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of documentation, including Behaviour Support Plans, Individual Risk Assessments, Communication Profiles, and Pastoral Support Plans.
  • Work collaboratively with the subject teacher and/or tutor to ensure student safety, in line with risk assessments, both on and off site.
  • Contribute to the College's multi-professional team, fostering good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Support the care team through participation in morning routines for students.
  • Stay up-to-date with specified subject areas, educational practice, and autism-related information.
  • Safeguard students and ensure their safety and well-being.
Requirements
  • Experience working with autistic spectrum disorders and/or challenging behaviors.
  • Experience in an education or residential setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to record information accurately.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal with complex and challenging behavior.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy.
  • Basic IT skills.
Qualifications and Training
  • Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Colleges.
  • Level 2 SEN qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Commitment to the values of the organization.
  • Driving license (highly desirable).
