Job Title: Consultant - Urology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Urologist to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality urological care to patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of urological conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans, taking into account individual patient needs and preferences.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of urological services, including service improvement initiatives and quality assurance.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional development.
  • Participate in educational activities, including teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in research and development activities, including the design and implementation of studies, and the publication of research findings.
  • Contribute to the management of the urology department, including budgeting, resource allocation, and staff management.
Requirements:
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • FRCS Urology or equivalent qualification.
  • Be on the specialist register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
  • Higher degree (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD) desirable.
  • Experience working within a urology team in a District General Hospital.
  • Experience working unsupervised during operating lists covering the spectrum of general urology cases.
  • Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changes in local demand and clinical practice.
  • Leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and staff.
  • Understanding of research methodology and ethics.
  • Commitment to teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, nursing, and allied health professionals.
  • Computer skills and ability to work as a team with consultant colleagues and other professionals.
  • Good organisation skills, including the ability to manage time effectively.
Desirable:
  • Experience at the level of a Consultant Urological Surgeon.
  • Peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience of problem-based learning.
  • Participation in educational skills training.
