Electrical Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary:

This position serves as a campus technical advisor on electrical matters and evaluates contracted electrical work. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance projects and preventative maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain electrical equipment and systems, correct problems, and perform new electrical installations in compliance with National Electrical Codes.
  • Provide the most economical and safest electrical service to campus.
  • Recommend latest or best electrical equipment, methods, systems, and tools.
  • Complete work orders with assigned priorities from immediate supervisor.
  • May be required to work at other campus locations.
  • Independently handle emergency work on weekends and holidays.
  • Assist other trades, perform safety checks, emergency response, maintain and order supplies, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Determine equipment, parts, and supplies needed to complete assignments.
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner and record information in the computer maintenance management system.
  • Report and be on campus during deemed weather-related events and emergencies to protect and restore campus grounds to operational condition, which may entail extended hours of work, snow, and ice removal.
  • Inspect facilities daily, report, and conduct repairs or maintenance as needed.
  • Assist other trades (Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC) in performing duties as assigned by facilities manager.

Requirements:

  • Valid Virginia driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Experience with electrical repairs and installation.
  • Experience as a technical advisor on electrical matters.
  • Experience in preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on parking lot lighting.
  • Certified in the use of bucket truck.
  • Journeyman Trade License.
  • Training in House Wiring and Commercial Electrical application.
