The Cellular Pathology Department at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) in the Histopathology laboratory.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day support to the Histopathology laboratory team, including data-entry, specimen reception, and preparation of clinical specimens for biological testing.
- Assist with microtomy, maintenance of equipment, and administrative duties related to laboratory activities.
- Work collaboratively with the team to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory.
- GCSE Level or equivalent in Maths and English at grade 4 (C) or above.
- Previous experience of working within a clinical laboratory environment.
- Fundamentals of laboratory health and safety.
- Awareness of the contribution of Cellular Pathology to patient care.
- Formal or vocational lab-based qualification IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part 1 or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a science-related subject.
- Experience of supervision and training of other staff.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and prioritize own workload.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
- Calm under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate our organisational values and behaviours.
