About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at AKT II in Cambridge. As a key member of our design-led company, you will work on a wide range of projects, both within the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead specialist structural engineering design projects across various sectors, including commercial, health, and retail.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce detailed designs and specifications in line with design and construction programs.
  • Ensure the coordination of design and detailing work for projects, including internal management and resourcing.
  • Conduct structural surveys of buildings and provide initial advice on potential issues.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations to British Standards and Eurocodes using relevant 3D software packages.
  • Interpret client briefs and assist in preparing designs at all stages, from scheme to detail.
  • Investigate solutions, explore options, and communicate design ideas through sketches, models, and presentations.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings and specifications for tender purposes.
  • Respond to client requests for information and attend design team meetings.
  • Coordinate design information with engineers from other disciplines and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
Requirements
  • Good degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Experienced Chartered Engineer (IStructE or ICE or equivalent), recently Chartered or near-chartered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Structural Engineering.
  • Strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, combined with practical understanding of buildings and construction.
  • Ability to design and deliver structural solutions on major and complex projects.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to balance tasks and prioritize to meet strict deadlines.
  • Exceptional understanding of the CDM Regulations and designers' responsibilities.
