BAM Nuttall is seeking a skilled and driven Quantity Surveyor to enhance our dedicated team, focusing on substantial civil engineering initiatives throughout Scotland. Our projects primarily target the energy infrastructure domain, including the construction of new substations and HVDC converter stations, contributing to Scotland's journey towards net-zero emissions.

Your Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding high standards of safety and environmental compliance in line with company policies.
  • Facilitating effective communication with project managers, senior quantity surveyors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Overseeing, guiding, and mentoring junior commercial personnel to foster their professional growth.
  • Contributing professionally to meetings with client representatives.
  • Providing commercial insights and support to supply chain partners through tender processes, pre-contract discussions, analysis, recommendations, and contract documentation.
  • Managing subcontractor relationships, including payment processing and final account negotiations.
  • Monitoring site resource costs and delivering timely, accurate cost performance data.
  • Preparing monthly cost and value reports, quarterly summaries, and presenting findings to senior management.
  • Engaging in discussions regarding project performance and offering commercial strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with risk and opportunity management protocols and advising project teams accordingly.
  • Promoting the use of company procedures and suggesting enhancements to senior management.
  • Participating in change management processes, ensuring adherence to contractual timelines and notifications.
  • Guaranteeing the timely submission of monthly payment applications as per contract conditions.
  • Providing commercial guidance to site teams and management on contractual matters.
  • Attending and contributing to all site commercial meetings.
  • Effectively managing your time and the workloads of the commercial team.
  • Assisting in the design and delivery of commercial training for site personnel.
Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who meet the following essential criteria:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor, showcasing strong core commercial skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with project teams, including clients, project managers, and designers.
  • Confidence and capability to work effectively within a team environment, positively influencing outcomes.
  • Willingness to support and assist colleagues in their professional development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.


Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with Early Contractor Involvement.
  • Familiarity with target cost contracts.
  • Progress towards CICES membership or equivalent.
