Role Summary

The Real Estate Legal Advisor will be an integral part of the Property division within the Legal Services Department. This team is responsible for overseeing a varied property portfolio that encompasses operational waste and water facilities, corporate offices, agricultural land, residential developments, renewable energy initiatives, environmental projects, and telecommunications infrastructure. The team plays a crucial role in preserving and augmenting the value of the organization's estate and its long-term revenue streams. Responsibilities include managing property acquisitions and disposals, as well as overseeing a lettings portfolio.

  • To deliver, oversee, and enhance the organization's conveyancing services and processes.
  • To mitigate risks in alignment with organizational strategy while adhering to legal, statutory, and regulatory standards, ensuring the safeguarding of the organization's current and future land interests.
  • To draft all necessary legal documentation in compliance with the aforementioned requirements.
  • To actively advocate for and implement the organization's core policies, ensuring exceptional client relations are upheld, and processes are refined to boost client satisfaction.
  • Engaging with external parties and stakeholders such as property owners, developers, external legal counsel, and relevant authorities.
  • Furthermore, there are numerous internal clients and stakeholders to whom we provide essential expertise, thus the ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships is vital, alongside excellent communication skills.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be tasked with providing counsel on all property-related issues, negotiating and executing all legal agreements pertinent to acquisitions, disposals, leases, easements, sewer requisitions, diversions, and adoptions. This includes managing a diverse caseload of both transactional and advisory matters, while generating income through legal fees for the organization.

  • Qualified as a Solicitor or Legal Executive (approximately 2-5 years PQE).
  • Preferably possessing prior experience in Commercial property.
  • Experience within a utility company is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Background in property litigation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Water Industry Act 1991 would be beneficial.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time role operates Monday to Friday with a hybrid working model, combining office and remote work.
