The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will join a collaborative team at Mildmay Mission Hospital, dedicated to maintaining exceptional standards of care.
This role involves providing expert Speech Therapy services to clients.
The ideal candidate will also oversee and guide SLT students, volunteers, and junior staff as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct specialized assessments, offer guidance, and implement treatment plans for individuals with communication and swallowing challenges.
Utilize advanced knowledge to make informed clinical decisions.
Administer suitable interventions and assess their effectiveness.
Exhibit clinical proficiency through evidence-based methodologies.
Tailor practices to accommodate individual patient requirements, including cultural considerations.
Maintain accountability for professional conduct and establish clear boundaries.

Primary Duties
1. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform specialized evaluations, provide recommendations, and deliver treatments to clients.
Employ expert knowledge for sound clinical decision-making.
Implement effective interventions and monitor results.
Demonstrate clinical efficacy through evidence-based practices.
Adjust practices to meet the unique needs of patients and respect cultural differences.
Be responsible for personal professional actions and recognize professional limits.
Adhere to departmental and national guidelines as well as the professional code of ethics.
Reflect on patient interactions and devise strategies to enhance communication effectiveness.
Offer professional advice within the clinical environment.
Multi-Disciplinary Team Responsibilities:
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and contribute to setting objectives.
Manage a patient caseload and assist in planning and goal-setting.
Fulfill key worker responsibilities.
Gather accurate statistical data and document therapy sessions.
Service Development Responsibilities:
Utilize rehabilitation and educational skills to instruct the community in therapeutic practices.
Collaborate with others to develop outcome measures for high-quality service delivery.
Monitor and enhance quality standards for Speech Therapy.
Identify opportunities for service innovation and enhancement.
Education and Research Responsibilities:
Facilitate training and educational initiatives.
Design in-service training programs and supervise students.
Lead audits and research in the designated area.
Stay informed about evidence-based best practices.
Personal Development:
Commit to ongoing personal development through training and reflective practices.
Maintain a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.
Encourage colleagues to adhere to evidence-based methodologies.
Ensure proficiency in therapeutic manual handling techniques.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Essential:
- Recognized degree in Speech Therapy.
- HCPC registration.
- Experience at the master's level.
- Registered member of RCSLT.
- Membership in relevant Clinical Interest Groups.
Experience
Essential:
- A minimum of 6 years of post-registration experience.
- Proven track record in managing complex cases and manual handling.
- Continuous professional development through specialized courses.
- Experience in assessments, risk management, and training.
- Experience working within integrated health and social care teams.
