We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Consultant to join our State and Local Sales and Use Tax team. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert advice to clients on solving their most pressing sales tax issues.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales and use tax laws, regulations, and policies, as well as experience in tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits, and state controversy work. You will work closely with clients to answer questions, collect necessary information, and provide exceptional client service.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert sales and use tax advisory and planning services to multi-state companies
  • Drive growth and profitability of State and Local tax practice by generating new revenue on existing client portfolio, cross-selling, and new clients for the tax practice
  • Serve as a Career Advisor, mentor, or coach to one or more employees, providing honest and timely performance feedback
  • Integrate with clients, local and regional RSM SALT teams, the overall RSM tax team, and RSM audit and consulting colleagues
  • Manage sales and use tax consulting projects, including technical research memoranda, nexus studies, exposure quantification, voluntary disclosures, and other sales tax mitigation strategies
  • Lead and manage business relationships with complex engagements, focusing on high-value, quality tax advice and expanding services to clients
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell various SALT opportunities

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • CPA, CMI, JD, or LLM certification
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience providing sales and use tax consulting services in a public accounting, consulting, or law firm
  • Thorough knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions, including education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $97,200 - $183,700

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
