Job Summary
This is a pivotal role that will play a key part in shaping the technical strategy of Colt Technology Services' data centre operations. As the Global Head of Design and Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a team of subject matter experts across various engineering disciplines. Your primary focus will be on driving technical optimisation and system efficiencies across all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of reports within the Global Engineering team, driving the Colt Technology Services' Engineering team forward.
- Support the Global Senior Development Director as required for successful outcomes in all matters.
- Provide guidance, management, and assistance to other Engineering & commissioning teams, site management teams, and operations on all matters relating to data centre design.
- Own the Colt Technology Services Global Reference Design (GRD) and update it continually to meet the latest industry and business requirements.
- Work with vendors and suppliers on the latest technology, industry trends, and undertake R&D on potential new equipment in line with the GRD and Direct Procurement strategy.
- Align with other functions to improve processes and communications.
- Deliver engineering support to ensure that Colt Technology Services utilises optimal technologies and designs on the most cost-effective (TCO) basis available in the market.
- Drive value creation from our supply chain partners.
- Liaise with customers on requirements and translate into solutions to win business and improve relationships.
- Technical lead on the Direct Procurement to select appropriate vendors.
- Implement, and standardise as far as practically possible, Colt Technology Services' highest standards of cost, quality, and programme control throughout the design and build phases of multiple projects in multiple countries.
- Work with other functions and end users/customers to ensure the product and design remain up to date and suitable.
- Analyse design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Drive standardisation across the design to impact costs, speed, and quality of work.
- Coordinate and direct the integration of technical activities to achieve business goals.
- Be the technical matter subject matter expert for the business, conveying ideas and concepts to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Review equipment failures and diagnose faulty operations ensuring lessons learned are documented and reviewed for future projects.
- Challenge the knowledge base of today to ensure improvement for tomorrow.
- Collect and analyse data relating to operating efficiency of installed systems and equipment.
- Undertake technical training to the remainder of the Real Estate team or wider business.
- Ensure timely resolution of issues and deficiencies and develop and implement contingency plans to mitigate business risk.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
