Job Summary
As a Store Manager at WHSmith, you will lead and inspire your team to deliver exceptional customer service, meet business objectives, and create a working environment that fosters growth and development. We aim to make our customers, colleagues, and partners proud to be part of our journey, whether it's a daily commute or a holiday abroad.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Guide and engage your team to achieve excellent standards and results in line with the Trading plan.
- Culture Development: Create a culture of learning, support, and recognition, identifying opportunities for personal skill development, product knowledge, and self-awareness to support colleagues in a welcoming environment.
- Performance Management: Play a key role in supporting colleagues, setting clear and measurable targets, and ensuring team members are aware of their performance.
- Community Involvement: Work with Head Office to share knowledge of the local environment, maximizing local opportunities and community involvement.
- Succession Planning: Develop and implement a robust people and succession plan, working with the Region to support people development and succession planning, including review and development plans for all colleagues.
- Store Performance: Keep teams informed about store business performance and challenge areas for improvement.
- Store Pride: Create a sense of pride within the store, ensuring both colleagues and customer facilities are of a good standard, and that we operate safely and legally.
Requirements
- Leadership Experience: Current Store Manager (or equivalent) in a fast-paced retail or similar environment, ideally with multi-site experience.
- Communication Skills: Confident in energizing, influencing, and motivating store management and teams to deliver exceptional service and performance.
- Organizational Skills: Organized, proactive, and able to prioritize at pace in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Employee Lifecycle Management: Experience in managing the employee lifecycle from recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing performance reviews.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong stakeholder management experience, able to influence and communicate with your team, peers, head office colleagues, and senior stakeholders with gravitas and conviction.
