Position Overview:

The Production Manager will be pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation of our manufacturing facility, maintaining a steady output of bio-derived green chemicals through safe and effective processes. This role demands a proactive leader capable of managing a team of 13 Process Operators to achieve Safety and Delivery KPIs, spearhead plant enhancements, and uphold all safety and environmental regulations. The Production Manager will also serve as a deputy for the Head of Manufacturing and the Supply Chain as necessary, ensuring smooth operations across the facility.

Core Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance:

  • Guarantee adherence to all environmental regulations, including SEPA standards.
  • Lead the Control of Work process, encompassing the Permit to Work, safe isolation of plant systems, and collaboration with maintenance teams.
  • Strive to uphold and enhance health and safety standards on-site.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of any near misses or incidents.

Leadership & Management:

  • Act as the Line Manager for 13 Process Operators.
  • Oversee performance management, set objectives, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, facilitate skill development, and provide on-the-job training for all team members.
  • Contribute to the formulation and lead the execution of the production strategy aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Serve as a deputy for the Head of Manufacturing during their absence, ensuring ongoing Operational Excellence.
  • Step in for the Supply Chain when necessary, ensuring timely and efficient material delivery.

Production Oversight:

  • Establish and manage the production schedule for the manufacturing of bio-derived green chemicals, overseeing fermentation and distillation processes.
  • Lead the Daily Operational Review meeting, addressing situational challenges and escalating issues for further support.
  • Ensure production activities comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.

Operational Excellence:

  • Adopt a data-driven approach to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and promptly address any necessary corrective actions.
  • Lead daily problem-solving initiatives to tackle operational challenges.
  • Collaborate closely with the broader Manufacturing team to foster continuous improvements within the facility.
  • Implement process enhancements to optimize efficiency in Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery.
  • Ensure daily structured monitoring and plant housekeeping is maintained (5S).

Documentation & SOPs:

  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments, ensuring they are thorough, current, and adhered to without deviation.

On-Call Leadership:

  • Act as the On-Call Leader, ensuring prompt response and resolution to any issues that arise outside of regular working hours.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing role, ideally within the chemical, pharmaceutical, or related sectors.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of managing a team and driving performance.
  • Experience in Operational Excellence with a Six Sigma qualification (Green Belt or above) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with process control systems, particularly PCS7 SCADA, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, environmental compliance, and regulatory standards, including SEPA.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (Root Cause Problem Solving, Root Cause Analysis, 6 Sigma) and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to remain composed and decisive under pressure.
